We deserve leadership that fights for us.
It’s time for an East Charlotte where working families can thrive, small businesses are supported, transit is reliable, housing is affordable, and our kids can grow up to say they’re proud to be from here. As a candidate for Charlotte City Council District 5, JD will bring his experience organizing at home, on national campaigns, and in the halls of Congress to build political power for East Charlotte and make East Charlotte stronger, safer, and more connected for everyone.

JD MAZUERA ARIAS IS A PUBLIC SERVANT, ORGANIZER, AND ADVOCATE.
The bilingual son of working-class Colombian immigrants, JD grew up watching his parents work tirelessly to build a better future for their family. His experiences as an immigrant and working-class Charlottean shaped his deep commitment to ensuring every resident—regardless of background—has a voice in shaping the city’s future. After graduating from Queens University, JD’s passion led him to politics, where he had the opportunity to organize and advocate as an inaugural member of the DNC’s Organizing Corps, a Legislative Fellow for Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and in many other roles. In Charlotte, JD has focused on building political power for underrepresented communities. He currently serves as Chair of the Hispanic Democratic Caucus of Mecklenburg County and is the founder of the North Carolina Latino Political Caucus, an emerging 501(c)(4) organization dedicated to increasing Latino civic participation.
On the City Council, JD will leverage his experience to advocate for the unheard in our community and ensure that East Charlotte has a strong voice in City Hall.
This movement is powered by All of Us.
